歌词抒发的是一种对理想世界亚特兰蒂斯（Atlantis)追寻无果，对现实世界感受到迷茫(so lost)和疏离(I'm faded)的心情。这是当代人普遍存在的一种内心感受，听众很容易产生共鸣。歌曲推出后曾在10个欧洲国家占据热门歌曲排行榜榜首。
歌词原文是英语，但国内中文翻译实在不敢恭维（参看百度百科Faded词条）。有的国外歌词网站把第一段歌词中的star错成了start, alight错成了alive，于是不走心的中文翻译也不作内容上的逻辑判断，以讹传讹翻译出了不忍淬读的中文歌词。根据歌词作者艾兰·沃克的确认，第一段歌词用词是star和alight，而不是start和alive。
